- I was wondering whether anyone had experienced (normal users and ISP
- managers alike) problems staying connected with USR's Total Control
- Rack system. I call University of Chicago's network for my PPP
- service and they have USR's rack system.
-
- The problem I am having is that using any other modem other than a USR
- Courier (others being SupraFAXModem, SupraSonic, Microcom Deskporte
- Fast, Penril Alliance 33.6, Practical Peripherals PC288LCD), I get
- frequent random disconnects. I realize that most of the modems I have
- tried are based (at least partially) on Rockwell's chipset, but the
- Penril is not (and Penril is supposedly the best at handling difficult
- phone lines).
-
- The disconnects can occur from within 1 minute or 3 hours of
- connection.
-
- Some people have told me (and I've read it somewhere before) that lots
- of people are having problems with USR's Total Control Racks. I
- thought that these things were basically USR Couriers. However, those
- same people say that when connecting to Couriers, they don't
- experience these disconnects like they do with the rack systems.
-
- Any comments?
-
- Thanks.
